The client approached us with a brief to design and remodel their current side and rear extension on a semi-detached family house. They wished to have a light-filled softplay room for the children, and a reconfigured open plan kitchen layout so that the parents could easily keep an eye on the children whilst working in the kitchen.
The open plan dining and kitchen is designed around a breakfast bar that draws an invisible boundary between the two spaces, carefully distinguishing the function of the spaces without creating a tangible compartmentation, maintaining a spacious floor plan.
We made use of the window in the soft play room to create a light-filled, airy reading corner whilst having lots of storage space including a mixture of open shelves, closed cabinets and tall storage units.
The playroom is designed such that the furniture and layout of it is neutral and could be easily adaptable for other uses in the future when the children grow up.
